Official Competition (Competencia oficial)
When a wealthy entrepreneur, seeking social prestige and a richer legacy, impulsively decides to create an iconic film, he sets his sights much higher than the norm: he wants nothing less than the greatest film ever made. Recruiting esteemed director Lola Cuevas (Penélope Cruz) to head the project, two very different actors are brought into the fold: Hollywood dreamboat Félix Rivero (Antonio Banderas), and experimental theatre performer Iván Torres (Oscar Martínez). Both Félix and Iván are well-respected within their divergent milieus – and both spar as a result. Through a series of increasingly tense and sarcastic trials set by Lola, both are forced to come to terms with their legacies – and their massive egos – as they work through the seemingly-insurmountable task set before them. Directed by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat (The Distinguished Citizen), Official Competition explores that most ambitious of tasks – movie-making – with characteristic insight and black-comic wit.
